TreeCorps is a volunteering group dedicated to helping plant and maintain the newly planted trees in the post-derecho effort to replace our lost tree canopy. We work closely with the 1000+ Trees group who raise funds to provide these new trees.

Our goals are to:

  1. Provide valuable volunteer opportunities in a multi-generational group. To make a difference, but have fun while at it.

  2. Educate people about tree planting, care and maintenance.

  3. Create a Tree Registry to track new trees and engage people through tree identification skills.

  4.  Build and care for our urban forest, to benefit our community and all who live in it.

We’re looking for volunteers for 2021! Opportunities includes tree planting during the 1000+ Trees spring tree sale on May 1st and 8th, as well as participation in the recurring tree watering and care routes.

learn.

When you volunteer with TreeCorps, we’ll provide you with the knowledge and tools you need to participate. Part of our mission is to educate people about tree care so together we can all contribute to making Grinnell a greener place by sharing knowledge and experiences.

Planting volunteers are trained in the basics of tree planting and watering before we go out, and then work as part of an small team.

This is a Trees Forever video demonstrating how to properly plant a tree.
