Plate to Plant.
Curbside community compost service
Plate to Plant is a bicycle powered community compost program serving Grinnell, Iowa. We divert organic wastes from the landfill by collecting residential kitchen scraps and biodegradables and turn them into rich compost soil.
Sustainability.
Beginning in 2020, per year of operation, Plate to Plant has so far diverted around 30,000 lbs of household food scraps, on top of around 10,000 lbs in commercial waste per year. That’s the equivalent of diverting the carbon emissions from 17 cars every year! And we’re looking to grow that number.
How it works.
Our flagship curbside collection program is simple to join. Pay ahead for either a six month or year long subscription, receive a bright yellow compost bucket and put in your food scraps. It’s that easy! We have two signup drives a year. Throughout the months of August and February you can join the program, with a special academic year subscription available to students.
