Fall is finally here, and it’s time to put your garden to bed. Join Imagine Grinnell, Backyard Abundance, and the Poweshiek County Master Gardeners of Iowa this Saturday, October 28th at 9:30 AM for a workshop to prepare your garden for the coming winter.
The workshop, sponsored by Imagine Grinnell and the Poweshiek County Master Gardeners of Iowa will be led by Fred Meyer, organic gardening expert, of Backyard Abundance. Backyard Abundance is a group that promotes the creation of healthy ecosystems and habitats that also provide food for people. In the spirit of maintaining environmentally sustainable landscapes this workshop will teach participants to foster healthy soil even in the off season. Just because winter is coming does not mean that gardens will hibernate on their own. Meyer will provide tips for cutting back plants, covering plots, and planting cover crops.
The workshop is free and open to the public. Hosted at the Martin Ave. Giving Garden, the workshop will begin at 9:30 AM and run until 11:30 on Saturday, 10/28. Participants are asked to bring gardening gloves and be prepared to work hands-on through the demonstrations at the Giving Garden. All levels of gardeners are welcome, and encouraged.
