Interpretive signs designed by the Arbor Lake Advisory Board and manufactured by ASI have been installed at Arbor Lake. A large kiosk sign greets park visitors at the north parking lot, and ten more signs appear at key features around the lake to educate people about the structures that have been built to improve the quality of the water coming into the lake. Newly signed features include several wetlands that are intended to clean water before it enters the lake, as well as a storm water interceptor, Hudson Prairie at the south end of the lake, and a rain garden on the lake's east side.
Gene Rohr, a member of the Arbor Lake IOWATER water quality sampling team, recently spoke to the Parks Board to recommend possible steps that would continue improving Arbor Lake. Now that considerable data have accumulated demonstrating high phosphorus levels in three of the five inlets, all storm drains, the issue of how to lower incoming phosphorus levels will need to be faced. We look forward to helping the City restore Arbor Lake to its former position as a recreation site that can be enjoyed in a multitude of ways.
